Winter fun!

Sunday’s snow and ice may have made life difficult for area EMS crews and those needing to get out for work today, but plenty of people — especially local youth — enjoyed the snow. Chances are many of them may have another chance to play in the snow Tuesday — Surry County Schools has announced it will be closed on Tuesday.

  • Peak Duke Energy outages for Winter Storm Izzy were seen Sunday afternoon and evening. With high winds today, 1,261 customers are reported to have no power currently.

    With a mix of rain, snow, sleet, freezing rain and back again: Izzy was truly a mixed bag that delivered a little something different across the region. The storm that came through produced enough snow and ice to make Monday morning a tough drive, and with cold temperatures there is still an ice threat lingering.
